    Lightbulb New Idea: MLB Contracts

This is just an idea, let me know what you think.

    Rookie Contracts

Each of the top 24 draft picks automatically receive 4 season -- guaranteed contracts. This means you can trade these players but you cannot cut them.
The rest of the players will have regular CSFBL contracts (1 yr, non guaranteed, team option)

    Veteran Contracts

After the rookie contract expires, the player will choose 3 options:
    1) resign a 4 year guaranteed contract (80%)
    2) demand bonus (10%)
    3) test FA (10%)

Then the team decides if they want to resign the player or offer a bonus (if applicable).
Free Agent Players with expired Veteran contracts will only sign for 4 years until 5/1 -- then it becomes a normal CSFBL contract (1 yr, non guaranteed, team option))

    Legacy Contracts

After a veteran contract expires, the player will choose 3 options:
    1) resign a 3 year guaranteed contract (80%)
    2) demand bonus (10%)
    3) test FA (10%)

Then the team decides if they want to resign the player or offer a bonus (if applicable).
Free Agent Players with expired Legacy contracts will sign normal CSFBL contracts (1 yr, non guaranteed, team option)

    How is it Done?

Fairly easily using google sheets to track the players drafted and their contract status as there is a direct correlation. In the offseason before Free Agency, the Admin will run a dice roll to determine the player decisions.

If a player bonus is granted the owner must release and resign the player for the new amount.

    Possible Ideas

Any Free Agent player that was drafted in rounds 3-4 that exceeds $3 million in base salary will have to be offered a Veteran or Legacy contract.
A randomly generated "Team Loyalty" rating is another idea which could be incorporated as a factor to whether or not a player is more or less likely to resign with your team.

    Contract Bonus

Everytime a player wins an award, it will impact their likelihood of requiring a signing bonus at the conclusion of their current contract. The bonus can either be a % of total salary or it can be a fixed amount. (Example: 50% of total salary or $1,000,000 fixed) and will only be applied after a dice roll and during a contract extension. Most players will not require a signing bonus.

If the dice roll determines a player seeks a signing bonus, the player will be released with the ability to be resigned for the agreed upon amount.

    MVP & CY

MVP, CY awards add an additional 20% chance of seeking bonus
    Total 2 players per season

    All Stars/Gold Glove/Fireman

All Star season will have add a 10% chance of going seeking bonus.
Fireman season will add an additional 10% chance of seeking bonus.
Gold Glove season from the following positions (SS, 2B, CF, 3B) will add 10% chance of seeking bonus.

    Total 45 players per season.

    Criteria

All awards won during contract will count

    Re: New Idea: MLB Contracts

This sounds very cool. Can admins set salaries or do we need to petition the coders so they might allow us that?

I would argue that a top 24 pick, after 4 yrs of development (and maybe even some stats at the big league level) would have a higher percentage of demanding a bonus (like, say, 30% and then 4yr guaranteed with still rookie money goes down to 60%).

Also, this might possibly call for a higher salary cap, but we will see (but that needs testing: we don't want to raise the cap too early, lest CK gets wiggling room).

Oakland As - Remake MLB (lost 1 WS, 3 CS, 2 DS in 7 seasons)
Tulsa Drillers - Remake AA (lost WS in 2144)
Williamsburg TriPowers - Psi Phi (WS in 1st season in 2078 and not much since)
Howlin' Wolf - Hippystock Moshpit (since #USB need to reorient in a now deadball league)
St. Louis Cardinals - Dynasty (nothing to show, league with little scouting and lots of ill-humored owners)
Berlin Black Holes - Upsilon Sigma Mu (3 WS won in inaugural seasons)

That's a great post Gregor and thanks for your feedback.

The original plan would mean users have to cut and resign. Maybe someday the game can adopt a tool or setting for it.
