    LEG: State of the League

    Hey guys,

I've written this post 3 times in my head and once on the forums only to delete it.

I was full of steam and energy to re boot LEG. At the time I had a lot of enthusiasm for the way the game was headed. The various monthly updates, active development and management, increased user activity, and growth of discord really pushed me to want to do whatever I could to help the game grow. The biggest endeavour was to re-boot LEG.

I am very happy and proud of the reboot. the initial build up and opening was great. The energy and activity was high. the competition level was great.

Then the USB happened and the environment and landscape of the game changed quite a bit. I am still a huge fan of the game and management and even development. But the changes to the base game are so dramatic, that a lot of the energy in the game has been sapped. That includes me to an extent. While I will continue to stay in the game, I KNOW I am only about 80% of what I was before the USB. I am investing real time in learning the new game, but it has taken a major toll on my energy I needed to keep this league up at the level I wanted it to be at.

My vision for LEG was always to be one of the best, most competitive leagues in the game. And to be the most discord friendly of any leagues in the top tier. I knew if we pulled in 24 great owners, and if we stayed on top of our unique rules and active talk, that we could easily do that. I know all of you felt that enthusiasm and energy the first 2 seasons.

Now, LEG is suffering more than other top tier leagues because EVERYONE is still wrapping their heads around post-USB life, and (rightly so) your focus is on your much longer held teams.

So, for the future of LEG, I want to make a decision as a league. Here are some options:

    1. Pause and abandon the league. This is drastic, but also clean.

    2. Go to a simpler ruleset and treat it like a 2nd/3rd tier league. get rid of the fancy stuff like LM limits and cap monitoring and lottery (maybe use in game lotto).

But what I cant see doing is fighting to keep the league as a top tier league, with fun restrictions, recruiting in a tough recruiting market, etc.

Please use this thread as a discussion forum. or on discord. but what i dont want to do is let the league run on a ruleset that is half *** enforced by me, and keeps losing owners slowly over time.
I love it when you hate me.... in fake baseball games... not in real life... what are you my mother?

    Simple Rules:

    1. Winning the world series in a half unowned league is not worthy of your time.

    2. If you are trading an elite item like a no1 overall pick or an elite player, then don't take the first offer you get. Advertise your availability to the league to maximize your return. Your trade partner is not going to protect you from underselling yourself.

    3. Quoted from a thread about Monopoly gameplay: "This strategy will end up killing you in the long run. You WANT to make deals. You WANT to be easy to do business with. If players get the impression that you're always going to ask for unreasonable demands, they'll trade with other players, leaving you out of those trades, meaning you get nothing of value while they benefit. Remember, your goal in a trade should not be to screw your trading partner, but to screw anyone who isn't your trading partner. Then people will catch on and realize that if they're not going to give you fair rates, they're going to be left out in the cold, which means that you shouldn't be dealing with people who play that way either."

    4. Win how you want to win in this game. A lot of us try to define what is the best way or the worst way. Take the easy road and take the easy wins. Then, later, when you realize how boring that can be, find the hard ways to win. Then, show others.

I figured this would happen the instant my team finally started winning.

I would vote to get through this season and pause.

Re: LEG: State of the League

Seriously though, I asked for relief from the LM limits the whole time because I inherited a bad team and due to the LM limit I couldn't trade for picks/prospects and nobody would trade pitching good enough to help, and was basically paralyzed, but I powered through it and finally got my team in contention and then the league gets scrapped? Not a fan. Not at all Extraordinary. I VERY NEARLY dropped so many times over the past few seasons because I was basically just drafting, crossing my fingers and hoping that the players ruined due to being called up too early wouldn't be the important ones. Then it FINALLY started working and, carpet yank.

But ok. I needed to cut down on leagues anyway, so at least it makes the choice easy.

Re: LEG: State of the League

Sucks as the Pork Chop Express is right on the verge of breaking out of the misery we've been in since inception.

Took my old team knowing it was going to be a major project, got hamstrung with new development curves, then hamstrung again with a model change to FA semi-nuking my lottery picks, and then whacked again when my team seemed eligible for the lottery and was excluded.

Figured I'd endure through getting knocked with pretty much every game change and league decision just to finally get a decent team on the field. That said, if it takes so long to get a vouched for owner to take over 1 of 3 open teams that he straight up retracts his request after 2 or 3 reminders, I'm not sure it's worth continuing.

Tough times in LEGVILLE. I would not be adverse to a pause, with the hope that things get smoothed over sometime in the near future.

a pause is basically disolving the league, so Ill drop if there is a pause most likely. I doubt the league would ever unpause.

Re: LEG: State of the League

    Okay,

I have come to a decision:

we will continue the league running, but we will strip back the rules.

    essentially we are eliminating:

the lottery rules (we will add a standard in game lottery) (for this season I will do one last regular lottery)
    the 10 man Low Minors
    the rule V draft

the salary cap will stay at 65m year round.

On adding new owners: I will add new owners as I see fit. I survey current owners whenever someone applies. if too many owners raise questions about teh fit of a potential owner, we do not add them. this is to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
