Good morning/afternoon/evening/night depending on when you read this. I’m andujar and I’m the self-appointed correspondent for the NL West Quarterfinal League that pits Arizona Cats, DADDY187, djay05897 and benmc in one division and snowwind, orlando17, DreamNY and Jerry Park in the other. The draft is complete and rosters are stocked.
For those not familiar with the single season draft format (and I hope the participants are at this point), a large group of the best players in the league are released to free agency. The owners in the league then select them one by one in a snake draft. Essentially producing 8 great teams and 16 teams of ‘drones’ that go unmanaged. These 8 great teams play each other 78 times (14*3 + 9*4)
There is a preview show promised that should be interesting. I’m going to report on the league and it’s going ons to give the event the hype it deserves. Specifically, this league, which drafted the other leagues into the ground. I may expose some strategies or holes by reporting, but that is what reporters do. I have no rooting interests and my bias will definitely be a West Coast Bias. I’m certain that each owner in this NL West league would advance if they were placed in the soft NL East league.
Opening Day is at 6pm today. The 4/2 game in D1 is between djay05897 and benmc. The Buffalo Sluggers start William Philip, the 39th pick of the draft and 15th pitcher selected, while Beyond HydroDome starts Austin Gonzalez, the 17th pick and 6th pitcher selected. Both teams focused on middle infield in the first two rounds of the draft, highlighted by Beyond HydroDome’s 1st overall pick of $12M 2B David Ferris.
Arizona Cats and his Stanley Basin Pudding Masters face a drone at 9pm. As does DADDY187 and his Montreal Expos.
In D2, the 4/2 game is NY Bombers vs a drone. The pressure will be on to avoid drone losses and getting one on Opening Day would be heartbreaking. Especially when J6 gives $50K Eugene Malick the ball to start. His highest big4 rating with my half scout is 34 in CO. NY is taking no chances and sending #2 overall pick, Donald Little, to the hill.
Orlando also starts with a drone, but at 9pm. And the human vs human matchup in D2 is Snow Ice Wind and Fleeting Wonders. It is no surprise that each team is starting the first pitcher they selected. 19th pick Robby Mills for Snow and 8th pick, Jonathan Perdue for Jerry Park. The player I’m most interested in ‘watching’ in this matchup is SS playing COF, Adan Storer, who appears to have 97 BA and 98 SL.
Good luck to everyone!
