    Season 1988: Preseason (part 1)

Some would say never change a winning team. And even LSU lost the final game it was a succesful time in Baton Rouge and it was a tough decision to leave.
But when the offer was there to join the Canes it was a chance to join my favourite college team in my favourite city.
Big thank you to GatorDave who build up a great team with a great depth.
Otherwise it it is a season before a big rebuild. 15 Seniors will leave the Canes after the season. The big depth also bring in lots of tactical possibilities and i look forward to many experiments, where many reserve player get their first game time.

At first i want to present the new Miami Jerseys.
To honour the "old ballgame" i thought about do it in a classic way.
The team always wear a green cap with orange visor and the „U“ as logo, green undershirts and green sox with a single orange stripe.

    Season 1988: Preseason (part 2)

This season Miami fields a strong lineup with low depth bullpen but the confidence is high that the team is able to play a good season.
    Team overview:
    Team Captain: 3 Gerald Wood
Stars: 77 Phil Savage RF, 3 Gerald Wood CF, 99 Marcus Murphy SS

    _________________CF Wood 3_____________
    ____LF Butcher 86 _______________RF Savage 77 ___
    _________SS Murphy 99_____2B Nesterenko 22_________
    _3B Jackson 23_____P Godby 31 ________1B Shire 98_
    _________________C Koontz 28___________________
    DH: Jaunelo Cotto 97
    SP2: Jason Bates 46
    SP3: Tony Martinez 20
    SP4: Mason von Flue 47
    CL: Leo Maki 24
    vs LHP:
    DH: Anthony Brogan 10
    LF: Jaunelo Cotto 97
    3B: Craig Martin 94
    1B: Bo Rodgers 90

    Closer Look:
Starting Pitchers: Our Bullpen lacks some depth. Last year starters Nathan Godby, Mason Von Flue and Tony Martinez will start again this season. Closer Jason Bates complete our 4-Man Rotation. Without many good options we have to hope that all 4 work well enough.
Emergency Starters: Our possible Emergency starters are Eric Neagan, Charles Valencia or Leo Maki. All of them will get couple of starts to keep our starters fit for a long season. Maki will only start games if Bates becomes Closer again.
Closer: It is part of the philosophy to play with a Closer. Leo Maki will fill this role, as long as we try out last years Fireman of the Year Jason Bates as starter. If Bates is more effective as Closer, he will be our first choice.

C: Korey Koontz return as starting catcher. Tony Nowak is our reserve catcher. Both are backed up by our new walk ons Theodore Ellsworth and Marc Lawson.
1B: The race is completly open and is depending from other position fights. Candidates are William Shire, Bo Rodgers, Anthony the Best Brogan and many more.
2B: Two Rookies fight to play 2B. Vladimir Nesterenko, who joined as shortstop was a favoured player in the recruting process and get the first chance to play. AJ Armstead must hope for bad form to get promoted from a development year.
3B: With Defensive Wizard Sugar Kane Jackson, Rookie Bo Rodgers and Craig Martin Miami has three options and some tactical possibilities. Jackson and Martin starts both untill decisions are made.
SS: Marcus Murphy, who was DH before will be our new starting shortstop. He is one of our best hitters and will play 1B or DH if he fail defensivly. In that case Ian Nash is a good and experienced option. Outsiderchances has Rookie Thomas Hackett.
LF: Junior Jerome Butcher will play against RHP and Senior Jaunelo Cotto will play against LHP, instead of Big Name Anthony „the Beast“ Brogan. Both had only development seasons and never played before in NCAA Games, but both players deserve now the chance to show their talents.
CF: Home Run Hitter Gerald Wood will start here, but is defensive only decent. Another Option is Ian Nash or Thomas Hackett In that case Wood would play DH or 1B.
RF: Supertalent Phil Savage is set. The ROY and All Star is a player for special moments. In his one season he reached lots of per game achievements (2x Hit for the Cycle, 10+RBIs. 5+Walks. 3+ Outfield Assists.) and he performed offensivly outstanding.
DH: It is completly unknown who play here. Brogan will play against LHP and Cotto against RHP at first. But who finaly play depends of the performance of the big hitters Wood and Murphy who would be set as DH or 1B if they will removed from their positions for more defensive focused players and also couple of other players could get the position.

    Milestone

Centerfielder Gerald Wood is the first UM Player who hits 100 HRs for UM.

At 4/14 he homered his 100 in 7th Inning against Tiki Kekoa at Seminole Stadium where the team won 9-4.
