    Tokyo Olympics

So the Olympics started a little prematurely today with some soccer. Good start for Sweden.

I don’t think I’m rooting for the USWNT anymore. Someone change my mind, but they seem too whiny for me about pay/equality. Reading the latest judgement against them was interesting.

    Re: Tokyo Olympics

US softball team has won 2 games by the combined score of 3-0 while the US women's soccer team looked out of sorts in a 3-0 loss to Sweden.

That's been the American Olympic experience so far.

Imagine a soccer player being whiny. Who'd have thought

I thought whining about money and representation was the very foundation of the US. Does it help that the Swedish team is exactly the same?

    Re: Tokyo Olympics

Two things regarding the Olympics: 1) I was surprised to read about the controversy surrounding these Olympics this morning-bribes to get it to Japan resulting in resignation of IOC member, director of opening ceremony fired for Holocaust joke when he was in a comedy trio 3 years ago, composer of opening ceremony forced to resign because of past bullying of classmates that he boasted about in magazines. 2)I have a college acquaintance who lives in Japan, and talked to him a few weeks back, was surprised that Japan had (at that time) yet to vaccinate anyone, and everyone was still lock-down and worried about going out. For a country I regard as maybe more 'with-it' technologically and medicinally (maybe thats a bad assumption), I figured they would be one of the earliest at vaccinations and public % receiving them. I see now that Japan only has about 20% of the population with 1 dose.

Also failure to start the Olympics on time would lead to IOC losing $3-4billion in TV revenue so obvious incentive to not delay longer due to virus spread. Total cost for the Olympics starts at low end at $15.4billion with only $6.7billion not publicly funded-which is always a discussion on if they are even valuable-I lean to the group that says dont be a country that has to have it.

Lemkes post, plus all the damage the olympics have done to former countries... IOC just as bad as the NCAA
