Paying players below minimum salary & deferring money:

Just, like in real baseball often times an older player(33-40) aint worth the contract he wants. a lot of teams cut these guys, unless your the one who drafted him as a kid. Would there be a way as a Owner to A: defer money to be paid a player who was at one point special to your franchise to keep him in your uniform for his career. or B: sign a older player below what he considers "fair market value" we can overbid on a player for his services, why not underbid based on the players decline?

I like the idea of underbidding on players! Lots of times decent guys get left in FA just because of salary demands.

Salaries reduce as a player spends more time in FA. I agree that there are some overpaid, useful players in FA, but it adds to the appeal of the game that you have to make some sacrifices. The good thing is that you do not owe salary to any player, i.e. if you cut him lose, there is no cap hit.
