Re: 2079 Season Thread: News and highlights.

Shoutout to longtime Nashville rival James Johnson.

Johnson is playing in what is likely his final season as Nashville enters full-on rebuild mode. Nevertheless it has been a productive year for the former #1 overall pick. Johnson just this season has cracked the 1,500 runs, 700 HRs, and 2,000 RBIs milestones. He currently ranks #5 in career RBIs and is just outside the Top 10 in career HRs.

The Tulsa-Nashville rivalry was epic back in the day. From 2066-2078 (13 seasons) one of the two of us reached the WS 9 times with 4 titles. We played each other 6 straight years from ‘69-‘74 and again in ‘77 with Tulsa winning the head to head 4-3.

Congrats to oracle for some glory towards a former player. Looking forward to you getting Nashville back on top so that we can battle it out again.

What a finish in the North! After jockeying back and forth for much of the first half and then faltering in July/August, Tillamook got hot in September and ran off 10 of 13 wins down the stretch to claw back within a half game of a playoff spot. With the tie-breaker clinched, just needed a win on the last day of the season over an Alabama team with nothing left to play for... except pride.

Unlike in 2077, when ending the season in a tie got them into the playoffs and ended up in a championship, this season ended with a loss on the final day leaving Tillamook on the outside looking in and learning the lesson that every win counts.

Congratulations to the playoff teams, commiserations to everyone else.

Arlington got a win on the last day to get to .500 for the season, but are still some way short of being a playoff team. There were some signs of optimism for the future: RF Richard Gonzalez had the best season of his career and was in the MVP race, free agent Doug Miller came in and did a respectable job in taking the SP3 slot, rookie James Wansley fell just short of hitting .300 after coming into the lineup straight off the draft, and the 1B/2B combo (alias Smith and Jones) were dependable in gaining all star recognition.

However the bullpen still needs reinforcements as none of the relievers distinguished themselves (one clubhouse wag suggested that their reaction was to relieve themselves on being summoned to the mound)

Sanford Watkins will enter 2080 22 HRs away from 300 for his carreer, he will be 33 next year. Chattanooga Upper management, has never been impressed with Watkins average, which was why he was Benched for a period in 2077, but Watkins has been a consistent 30 HR threat every year of his career. We are doubting he ends up in BD Hall Of Fame, but he may end up in the team HOF

Philly went on Auto pilot this season but did make a change or 2 during the season, the result 72 wins. Kind of what were expecting 65-70, good for 8th pick next season. Tried to move the pieces that had good seasons but no bites.

Kory Davis has turned into a nice hitter, always stuck behind better defenders he's been a extra up till the last couple seasons but its hard to argue how consistent he's been with the bat. Career .836 OPS in over 2500 ABs

Zeth Ross is the stud of the team, 27 YO continues to post 200 hit seasons and kind of does it all, just need to manage that EN.

Nice rookie season for Joe Pierson 14-11 sub 4 ERA.

Fisk SOs over 200 again but his lack of CO keeps him from being the total package, still a sub 3 ERA

Really respectable team ERA of 4.13 probably why the team played pretty well at times.

No question power is in short supply 142 HRs and half from 2 players.

Mild pitching and defensive changes coming in the next few seasons, but we'll be drafting bats close to ready the next few seasons and dealing to finish things off.

Miroku, thanks for the shout out! Johnson is one of the greatest in BD history and sits 12 hr's behind the all time leader in Nashville history. If he doesn't retire at years end, he will be given a spot on the team to give his final curtain call. Pitcher and 304 game winner Eugean Keeley and 1b Robert Bennett just called it quits at years end, and will easily walk into the HOF with their two Nashville rings. Johnson might want to be the third wheel at the HoF ceremony, and go in together as a trio if he doesn't retire?

Re: 2079 Season Thread: News and highlights.

Tulsa up 2-1 in our series vs Antarctica.

Game 3 saw a surprisingly rare site. 8x MVP (soon to be 9x) Chandler hit a postseason HR! Despite 500+ career HR and being in his prime, Chandler had last hit a postseason HR in 2074. That’s not for lack of opportunities. Chandler’s homer-less streak lasted an absurd 38 games. This from a guy hitting 45-50 HR/year.

I’m hoping this helps him open the floodgates and have a big postseason. Most of our other former heavy hitters are either retired or washed up, so Chandler doesn’t have the help he used to. At least our new elite defensive SS is helping our starting pitching look good. Through 3 games the starters have given up just 1 ER in 21 IP.
