Ok thanks I apparently didn't look far enough down the rule book

They stay there... I picked up a couple that dropped to the end of the first round recently.

Boy, I've done all I can to improve this team this year and hit minimum win reqs. I've blown through all my secondary prospects trying to get vets that work and just nothing seems to be working. Fingers crossed for a good September or we'll be staring a penalty in the face.

    Re: 1993 Season Discussion

Finding themselves in a dog fight for the East Division, Detroit decided to make a couple moves to try and ensure a return trip to the playoffs after several seasons rebuilding. First was to bring up OF David Fike. Detroit brass felt Fike needed another season in the minors before debuting in 1994, but with the platoon of veterans Nicolas Zuniga and Michael Connery barely treading water offensively, a change needed to be made. Fike doesn't have quite the eye at the plate of Zuniga or Connery, but he'll bring some more power, along with a bit of speed on the bases. He'll slot in the #6 spot for now. Zuniga drew the short straw, and was sent down to AAA.

The other move made by the manager was to run with a four man rotation. It was a tough choice to decide who loses a spot, but in the end Ismael Thorne was given the demotion to the pen. He performed well the last three seasons, but was off to a rocky start in '93. He did make strides in the last couple months, but he'll help strengthen the bullpen where he'll take the place of journeyman Frances Pittman. Pittman pitched a superb '92 campaign, but just hasn't put it back together this season.

I'm also lamenting the fact I missed my first round pick in 1989. I drafted SS Robert Boyd, who I moved to 1B. He looked OK, but not worth a #9 spot. He's hit an abysmal .216/.287 with 19 HR and 73 RBI averages. Instead, I likely would have gone for 2B David Robinson who has been tearing it up in two seasons hitting .296/.402, stealing 123 bases and knocking in 113 per season average. He would possibly be the missing piece for our offense to put this team over the top....

I somehow have a shot at the playoffs and possible division lead, 10 games over .500 with very little offense. Team BA is tied for 22nd in the league (.241) OBP 20th (.316) 21st in SLG (.394) Its been temping today to make a deal but the best players will take 1st rounder that I cant part with in my mind. A couple nice players but limitations like low EN and right handedness make the high salaries tough to swallow. Also the decent players in minors are part of the build.

another strange awards tidbit. Atlanta's Lynch is higher in the Cy Young rankings (3rd) than the ROY rankings (5th). There are multiple pitchers ahead of him in the ROY that don't appear at all in the Cy Young rankings.

    Re: 1993 Season Discussion

Early in the season, I thought that Florida didn't have any chance to make the 5 year minimum (needing 63 wins) this year, one in which I traded away several of my best players in order to start a rebuild. We've been doing better in the second half of the season, and have passed my wildest expectations for the team... currently at 70 wins on the season with nine more games to go. If we get just two more wins, our target next season will be just another 70 games won to make the minimums.

We are hopeful that our first three first rounders (out of five) this season will end up being spectacular additions to the team in a few seasons... helping the team be at least as good as it ever has been... and perhaps leading to our first ever division win within three to five years.

Altogether, the team picked up five pitchers and three fielders in the amateur draft, and another player via rule 5 this season. And this doesn't count Indy's first round pick (maybe around #10-12) in 1994 that the Flyers already have acquired.
