SD Rookies and how they fared:

Armando Thompson (Acquired from Pilots, #18, 1997) - Did quite well: .318/.370/.531/.902, 29 HR, 85 RBI, 68 runs. Platooned against RHP.

Gerald Burton (#33, 1996 from Houston) - Took over RF after starter was traded, did alright. .280/.334/.405/.740 in 62 games. Per160 paces: 8 HR, 54 RBI, 44 SB, 90 runs.

Robert Pritchett (#23, 1997) - Former 1st rounder has lagged in dev (48/70 SY) but gets a look in a depleted BP. 3 saves, 4.01 ERA, 1.57 WHIP.

BUT... my team performed nowhere near expectations so it looks like the Colonels pick that I traded them will be #8. Ouch!

    Congrats Tander.
Have to say I'm pretty pleased with that unexpected result! Helps soften the blow of missing the playoffs.

That was a site record. It was tied (margin of victory) in HR a few years later, but that one got an asterisk because it was against a minor league team (HR currently only has the original 16 MLB teams, with the other slots filled with undrafted and discarded FA's).

Talk about taking one for the team: Robert McLain, 36 years old at the time, throwing 197 pitches in 7 innings of mopup duty in the loss. He kept going out there despite giving up 24 runs, lol.

I like to think of it as him knowing his place in baseball history was secure, since he never had the talent to make history in a GOOD way.
