    Dagobah Deeds

Kenneth Blake has finally done it, in the 3 pm sim he got his 1000th and 1001st career walks. Blake was a #6 overall pick in 2001 and has played 9 seasons with the Hammers. Ken is no longer starting for Dagobah but he occasionally fills in to rest other aging veterans in the lineup.

    Here is Blake’s stats:

    Re: Dagobah Deeds

What a crazy game on 8/20, Dagobah held Brandywine to only 8 hits over 14 inning from our Ace, Steven Holt and our 43 year old closer Danny Morse. Interestingly enough, Brandywine got more hits than Dagobah who only managed 7, but Hopkins had the game winner in the 14th with a RBI double. Re: Dagobah Deeds

Danny Morse has done it, with Save 34 this season he has passed Derek Robles’s career save record in Dagobah of 135 with 136 saves as a Hammer. Then he went out the next night and got number 137. He only needs 8 more to tie Etheredge for #1 but Danny will have to not retire to get there.

Morse is in his 24th season and only 4th as a closer in Dagobah. Danny started his career in Washington then spent 14 years in Manitoba before become the closer here in Dagobah.

Congrats on actually getting a competent closer that’s one of the tougher things for me to fill out for my budget lol.

    Re: Dagobah Deeds

The rebuild is in full swing in Dagobah with big trades being made last year, lots of draft pick and free agent hirings. While the core lineup is aging, there have been some key additions over the last 2 season that will hopefully payoff in a season or two. Pitching is definitely getting younger as we had 5 picks last season and we took 4 pitchers. And we just signed 3 free agent pitchers as well. We also have 6 picks in 2017 including the number 1 overall so we should have some young talent infused into the team soon.

This is also the season that the pair of pitchers drafted in 2010 are finally getting their chance in the Majors. Justin Velez and Michael Heuser are both 25 this year and looking forward to making a difference. Velez will be joining the rotation while Heuser will enter the bullpen in a middle reliever role. Lee Driggs may also make an appearance but probably not until May. Driggs joined Dagobah last season in the Holt trade that also landed us 3 extra picks for 2017.

Finally, to make room for all of these young arms we had to part with Austin Black. Austin has been a bullpen staple for the last 10 years for the Hammers. He was a round 1 pick for us back in 2004 and joined the team 2007. Over that time Austin Black has a 55-58 record, 13 holds and 39 saves. He gave it a try as a started several times over his tenure as a Hammer but was ultimately more effective out of the bullpen. Austin's best season was in 2010 where he posted a 2.38 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP but in 2016 his numbers started falling off. He posted a 5.42 ERA in 2016 and that was the worst out of the pen (except for our long reliever reclamation project Hendrickson).
