Portland and Montreal. If the Tampa/Montreal sharing a team thing happens, then replace Montreal with Charlotte.

Tampa needs a new stadium that isn’t 30 minutes from Tampa.

    nope.
won't happen. just built a new AAA stadium. they can't get 10k there. nashville is an event city. that's why football does well.
although, hockey is successful, but they were first.

plus new soccer team. we just bought them and skipped to the front of the line. the new mayor doesn't want to pay for the stadium and is trying to get out of it, even though the city council approved it.

my guess is montreal (vive les expos!) and i'll mention a new city - salt lake city.

The Nats really seem to enjoy claiming the heritage of the Expos. I don’t think a team in Montreal would be likely to reuse that name.

    Re: MLB expansion

From a pure population standpoint, San Antonio seems to be a no brainer. The city is by far the largest without a major league baseball team, and in fact there is only 1 major professional sports team in the greater San Antonio-Austin area. Of course the summer weather is even more sweltering in San Antonio than it is in Dallas.

I'd also like to see MLB return to Montreal.

LA/anaheim is about 13 million - a 3rd team would be in a similar spot on a population basis to a combined SA/Austin, and NYC could easily support a 3rd team.
I don't think a pure population argument is a legit perspective at all. Baseball wants to expand interest. You are already touching everyone in the top 3 cities with 2 different options. Adding a 3rd won't increase interest, it would just split it up further. There are baseball thirsty fans that would do anything to have a pro team. I can't see any situation where a 3rd NY team would be better than SA/Aus. That's like saying it would be better for basketball for the Spurs to move to L.A. to compete with the Lakers and Clippers. Or move to NY to be the 3rd Knicks and Nets. Its silly idea when you think about it like that. Or maybe the lowest population football team Green Bay should become the New Jersey Packers and join the Jets and Giants. Or maybe they could be the L.A. Packers.. I mean they currently play on the road against the Chargers or Rams and already have more fans than either home team.
