    SAA Colt 45 Newswire

I’m starting to really fall for this plucky bunch of veterans in Houston. Right after I took over the Colt 45s they closed out July with a 7 game win streak to bring them back to .500 with a 54-54 record. I guess the guys liked the new management!

Then we went 9-1 going into an 11 game home stand against the two teams ahead of the 45s in the division. We went 3-1 against Brooklyn then 3-1 against Cincinnati to get to the top of the division. After which Houston promptly lost 3 in a row to Homestead. And finally went 2-1 in the last 3 games to make it into the Division playoffs.

And now the 45s just beat Cincinnati in 4 straight to be the first team to clinch their Division. What a ride!

Well that was short lived, Houston was knockout in 4 games during the conference playoffs. Oh well, we had a good run. And got farther that I thought we would.

Charles Wright got his first career Silver Slugger award and his 8th nomination to the All Star team this season with and impressive 200 hits and .354 average. He is certainly not a power hitter but her can swing the lumber.

This is the first time in 7 seasons that he has broken the 200 hit barrier (he hit 199 twice over the last 7 years) and he set his single season record for batting average in his age 31 season. He did get 203 hits 8 years ago when Charles got his first All Star award.

Are there any young lefty pitchers out there? I would consider a trade for Houston’s top prospect for a 24 year old or younger lefty pitchers.

He is a lefty, #4 overall pick last year and ready to make an impact this season. PM me trade ideas https://www.csfbl.com/player/view.asp?playerid=4825190

I have a bunch of young lefty pitchers who are all moving up from low minors this season. I don't have need for a first baseman though.

Houston just snapped a 7 game winning streak from 6/20/2045 through 6/27. The streak brought them back from the gutter improving a 29-41 record to a 36-41 that is at least near expectations. They are clearly not running away with the division but they did have a couple of these last season and ended up making it to the conference championships.

We also came out on top of a 19 inning marathon on 5/19. Here’s the like to the box score: https://www.csfbl.com/game/boxscore.asp?gameid=42138943

July was the month of the strikeout for Houston. Our Ace Jim Meehan had 11 Ks on 7/01 and 7/23. Rick Reams had 11 Ks on 7/11. Even old timer James Brooks had 10 on 7/16. All 3 set their season high, single game Ks in July. Not bad for my sub-standard rotation.

Peiare Hughes has retired after 12 seasons as a starting pitcher in Houston. Hughes finishes with a career record of 126-98, 4 all-Star nominations and a gold glove. He was a solid lefty in the lineup and he will be hard to replace.
