2006 Season Discussion: The Robert Taylor Farewell Tour

After contemplating retirement in the offseason, Robert Taylor will come back to the Koalas for one final season. The announcement came at the elementary school named after Taylor in Las Vegas where it was reported that a 2nd grader told Taylor that he was so excited to go see Taylor pitch with his father, who saw Taylor pitch for the first time when we was in 2nd grade. The heartwarming story is said to be the main factor in swaying Taylor to come back for one more year.

Koala management has been very supportive of Taylor and “letting him make the decision”. Some in the media have questioned the choice to make Taylor the opening day starter for a team that has arguably better options that will stay in the minor leagues. Management quickly dismissed that talk, reminding everyone that Taylor is a legend in Las Vegas and his veteran leadership is priceless.

Management seems to be behind Taylor, even after a 90 win season and the possibility of him being a liability in a playoff run. Will management change their tune or is Taylor going to be treated like the ace he used to be for the full season?

A nice passing of the torch moment? Rookie Robert Jacobson outduels EP legend John Barber in a 1-0 victory.

The Koalas have rookie Karl Bettis at the top of the MVP projections and rookie Robert Jacobson at the top of the Cy Young projections. The youth movement has put us solidly into 2nd place in the division and we look to return to the playoffs if these guys can keep the momentum going.

Unless the veterans start to play better, Ruby Ridge may be seeing the beginning of the slide.

39 year old James Thompson and Alvin Skinner combine for a no-hitter.

Looks like Ruby Ridge got back on track winning 9 of their last 10. Unfortunately for them, Hebron and Las Vegas are also 9-1 in their last 10 so nobody has made up any ground.

After 9 no decisions in his first 13 starts, Robert Taylor goes 5-1 in his last 6 to go to 8-2 on the season. Getting past the 4th inning seems to be a problem for Taylor frequently but the team is putting him out there when he says he's ready. The Koalas currently own the 2nd best record in the league, 3 games behind their division rivals Hebron.
