Hardy, all you need is one Highsal protected player to get full FOA. The same should be true for every other owner up against it. Brian not having this fixed for season 2 is hard to fathom, but i wouldnt be opposed to a similar workaround

Oh I'm good with whatever for season 1. I'm saying that going forward it is way more of a game changer to change the FOA cap to be at 55m.

Although even dropping 1 high sal player will take giving me a low sal player because I have 0 extras right now.

I'd think that ideally in this worst case season 2 scenario we vote on options such as these as 24 equals and respect whatever decision the majority goes with.
Personally, I'd like to get one season under our belt, and actually become invested in this league, before resuming this discussion. I'd also like people who need help with the cap this year to think about who they want temporarily dropped and protected, and post in the forum.
    I vote 4, looking around

I really don't see much downside to the temporary drop solution - apart from a minor annoyance to drop and reassign perhaps 3 or 4 players once a season. It doesn't affect anyone's strategies, as both the mentorship and imposed $75m cap would.

So I'd vote we do that to get the first season started, and if Brian can't manage the workaround and no-one comes up with a better solution, we can always just do it again next year, and so on.

I have an idea for #4. First some numbers though.

So that we all know exactly what numbers we're dealing with: If the cap is $75M, and a team takes their FO budget all the way to $60M, they will have either 10/9/6/6 for their allocations, or 10/10/6/4. This is assuming you do not want to have an odd number of points for scouting. The math behind this is: $75M - $60M = $15M. 32% of 15M gives you $4.8M, which would give you 10 points. If you drop to 31% then you only have 9 points, so need 32. 32% * 2 = 64%, which leave you 36% for your other 2 numbers. If you go 18%/18%, you end up with $2.7M, which is just short of 6 points. So you end up with 5 and 5. No one wants 5 scouting points, so you are forced to go to 10/9/6/6 or 10/10/6/4.

    TL;DR:
In order to get to 10/10/6/6, your FO buget needs to be under $59.772M. 18% of $59.772 is $2750.04. So if we go with a $75M cap, I think everyone will strive to get down to $59.772M. [Run the numbers yourself before trusting me though!!!]

    $60M gets you either 10/10/6/4 or 10/9/6/6.

OK, here's an idea for a compromose. First, I think we go with the workaround for the first season so that everyone has 10s across the board for year 1.

Assuming there's no solution to get the cap to $80M:

What is the biggest thing you lose if you only have 6 or 4 points of scouting but most everyone else has 10? To me, there are actually 2 key player lists that would really be significant: The amateur draft list, and the created free agent list. The other places you lose accuracy on, which to me are less important, are your own roster, the "regular" free agent list, and potential trade targets on other teams.

We could work around the amateur draft list and the created free agents by having someone who has 10 points of scouting post the values, so that everyone has the same list to work with. That would minimize the damage of having less than 10 points scouting without being a huge pain in the rear to maintain.

The arguement then would be whether having 100% scouting vs. 60%/40% on your own roster, and 50% vs 30%/20% for "regular" free agents, and other teams, is worth delaying for.

One other point of contention from my previous post: If we went with this compromise for a few seasons, but then in season 3 or 4 or 5 we suddenly have the ability to take the cap to $80M, would it be OK to use the compromise for a few seasons and then go to $80M mid-sprint.

I think it would be OK. Not ideal, but OK. I don't think it would be a big enough change to be "totally" unfair. Definitely a little unfair to teams that had less than 10 scouting for a few seasons, but not "totally" unfair. If that makes any sense. So I'd be willing to make the change to $80M if it became available.

And for what it's worth, I expect that in a year or two, I'll be one of the teams with less than 10 scouting if we are limited to a $75M cap. So I do expect it to affect me.

I vote #2. Let's get started and see how it goes. Maybe we get the 80 M bump and maybe not but let's not count on it and plan on the temporary drop to get everyone full FOA unless there is a better idea how to get full FOA. I think it's high time we stop discussing it and actually get started. We know we have a way to give everyone what they need that isn't too hard, so move forward with that and hope for the best.

I mean if anything we can just do the temporary dropping every year if it comes to it. I do think we need to do that for season 1 and hope that Brian gets back to us soon.

Sounds like the plan is to start on 11/18 with temporary drops. So we have about 10 days now

Mentor was removed for everyone but Vashon, because I can't take it away from him. I believe only Vashon can turn off mentor status leagues, but since he isn't here and doesn't have a team I don't see any problem.
