    2028 Free Agent League

OK, as I promised, here's the thread to gateway our New League Format. I just want posts that relate exclusively to the move to Free Agency.

Among the things I'm looking for are:

    1) A new league name based on the free agency format - let me know what you think it should be.
    2) Feedback on new format issues that might arise as we set this up.
    3) Your feelings on what format to use regarding our draft.

Hers is the basic format we will use:

Just like MLB, all players who have 6 seasons of service time with a team will automatically become Free Agents at the conclusion of their 6th season. The current owner of the player will have the following options:

    1) Release the Player outright after the conclusion of the 6th season with no compensation.
    2) Attempt to resign said Player after release thru a Free Agent Bidding Process.
    3) Trade said Player during his walk season for whatever compensation you may be able to obtain.
    4) Offer your entire next season Draft to another owner in an attempt to keep said player. (Not sure how this will/would work, just an idea I'll throw out to you).
    5) Other options that we might mutually agree on.

PLEASE BE AWARE THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS - NOTHING IS SET IN STONE! That's the reason for this thread. We have an entire season to work out issues/bugs. That's why I desperately need your feedback (no matter how you feel).

    Regards, 'Nod.

I'm willing to give it a try.

    ---

When we sign a free agent who has 6 years experience, the subsequent contracts are as in default CSFBL (I suppose)

    ---

    to consider:
    - Perhaps a free agent would not resign with his old team, unless they offer him a significant increase in pay, compared to any other team's offers
    - offers for a free agent will be decided on by the a) default CSFBL method (quirky, unpredictable), or by b) highest bidder gets the f.a. , or c) other method?

I think if we did it by b) highest bidder, then we'd generate a lot of forum activity, which is always a good thing.

Just to verify on how it is done. All players on a teams roster with over 6 years big league time will be released into the free agent market. They will then be available for any team to bid on. So that during the 6th season you have the player you can try to trade him for prospects or picks or whatever you can get. The bidding process for the free agents then goes to the highest bidder. Sounds simple enough.

It will default if the player is not signed.

A FA will probably not resign with his old team if they are not the highest bidder.
