    SS Michael Crumpton

Is this a reach? Yes, for sure. Will I regret it? Probably. Could I have gotten a better player with the #7, #5, #3, #3 or #2 pick in the upcoming amateur drafts. No doubt, absolutely, unquestionably, there will be tons of better players available. Could I have gotten a better Shorstop with one of those picks? Probably, but which draft should I go with to ensure I get a Shortsop, and if I get one, how long would he take to develop? Because if I don't take Cumpton, I will in all likelyhood be forced to draft someone to play short stop, and it's possible the best player available to play short when I pick isn't as good as Crumpton.

It dosn't matter because I've made my decision. Crumpton will be my SS for 2013 or 2014-2020 season, and I already have a 93 RA 2B for the 2012-2020 season. As a result, I won't be forced to reach again in this draft or in free agency or in an amateur draft. I'll TRY to find a better shortstop than Crumpton somewhere along the way, but I won't be forced to reach, or blow tons of resources and dollars out the window, or play some sad sack 2B out of position & hope for the best.

And I take comfort in that.

Until I realize what a mistake this is...

    Cheers,
    Wayne
