    Re: 1983 Season Discussion

Brockmire's 3rd season has been a quiet one, probably due to the time of year it falls on the calendar and many teams are waiting for their teams to take shape

We are still waiting for the leagues 1st no hitter, perfect game, or other dominating pitching achievement.

SD's Andrew Stanley shows up 3 times on the Achievement list making a case for being one of the best hitters at the start of the league. He has TWO 6 hit games and a TWO Grand slam game to his credit

Minn's Stephen Owens already has the top Triples season with 19 so far

KC's Roy Morales' '83 season top the AT list with 30 CGs, BTW he owns 2nd & 3rd place also with 27 both '81-82

The aforementioned Stanley wasnt the 1st to 100 HRs but his 159 is tops in Brockmire's early history

Detroit looks to make it a 3 peat and will likely start that quest vs. Cleveland who they have knocked off the past 2 seasons 8-1

Boston will be for the 3rd straight season tops in the division and will face a familiar foe in Philly or Baltimore who they havent been able to get past in the 1st round, Balt in '81 and Philly in '82. It'll be a dogfight down the stretch for the 2nd seed as Balt finished against NY and Philly-Mont.

    Wow, how about DIV3
    a 3 way race between KC/ATL/TEX, in 82 it was TEX/KC and '81 TEX/FLA

LA has continued in '83 and could win the division like '81 and it will be a good race between SD & SF for the possible 2nd seed. LA faced SF in '81 and SD took on the upstart OAK team in '82

Detroit mirrored '82 almost perfectly on offense, which is down from the inaugural '81 season. With one game left, we've scored 4 fewer runs than last season, and have the same number of HR. Daniel Fields rebounded from his lackluster '82 campaign to bring home team MVP honors as he led in Runs, HR and RBI; and came in 2nd in doubles. The pitching slipped a bit from '82. We had no 20 game winners, as there was a trio of 15 game winners to lead the team. Kyle Sleeth takes the team CY Young honors gong 14-5 with a team leading 2.86 ERA and 196 K's.

Minnesota 10k made it interesting but in the end the cream rose to the top! We still had a chance for playoffs with 4 games left. Really happy with what we did this season and if we win our last game Minnesota will finish @.500. A tremendous accomplishment after starting with a horrid record to start season.
Grats Detroit and Cleveland. Go get em!

KC barely sustains it’s division lead after dropping 20/29 to end the season. Hopefully our playoff luck will be a little better, this team is highly frustrating and always seems to underachieve it’s ratings.

Congrats to Balt who will take the 2nd seed even if i win game 160 due to division record. I really struggled against MONT this season. I have been wondering what if I didnt seel my top 2 pitchers after season 1. 3 seasons, 1 playoff appearance, 1 playoff series win.

ATL is the odd man out due to tiebreaker, KC wins division by 1 or 2

    LA vs. SD

And we do not have a 100 game winner in '83, Parity?

Only a 27 game difference between 1st and 24th, which is pretty tight. Also, no team better or worse than 160 run differential (1 run per game). Not bad.
