    17 Years since NBA Robbery

Ballsy prediction if even serious considering that the Boston Celtics have 17 NBA titles and this entire franchise dating from Rochester Royals days has only one. However, events which transpired in a game exactly 17 years ago may well have cost the Sacramento Kings a 2nd NBA title in franchise history.

Going into their Friday May 31, 2002 Game 6 matchup at Staples Center, the Kings led the two time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers 3 games to 2. As nice as this looked, the series could have been won in 5 because the Lakers ended up winning game 4 on a fluky buzzer beating 3 pointer by Robert Horry and the first half of that game ended on a Samaki Walker 3 pointer which should not have counted.

While game 4 was merely hard luck and the Kings win in game 5 was similarly dramatic, game 6 featured some seriously biased officiating. The game was noted for the egregious officiating in favor of the Lakers in which Los Angeles took 27 took free throws in the 4th quarter alone. Years later it was even reported that this game 6 was part of the Tim Donaghy officiating scandal. In any case, the Lakers won game by the score of 106-102 and clinched the series with an overtime game 7 victory in Sacramento.

I, for one, think the Kings would have dispatched the Nets in the NBA finals just as easily as the Lakers did. It sure seems this was an example of biased officiating in favor of the big city team, and I can only imagine how much this result angered Rando and other Kings fans.

Worst officiated game I've ever seen in any sport. I loved how Bibby's nose got in the way of Kobe's elbow.

I stopped watching basketball for several years because of this game. And as just an NBA fan, the Kings were an extremely fun, entertaining team to watch.

As a Nets fan, I think the Kings/Nets series was a better chance for the Nets, they matched up better with them as opposed to the Lakers.

But yeah, I remember watching that series and not really caring about basketball after that until the Malice at the Palace...

    a fellow nets fan? that's a surprise!

yeah, kings would have been a slightly better matchup just because Collins had no shot against Shaq...he had 19 fouls in 75 minutes, lol. Meanwhile Shaq scored 36/game in the series. the kings matchup couldn't have been much worse stylistically.

2nd worst. Wade took page out of Kobe flop book in 4th quarter of Game 3 of 2006 NBA finals versus Mavs and spent the whole quarter on FT line(13-18 for game). Adidas launches huge shoe campaign in Game 5 ( Mavs sweep would’ve destroyed them).

Wade took 3 Free Throws in the 4th quarter of that game and two were in the final second on an intentional foul. Dirk blew that game by missing a FT to tie it with 2 seconds left. You sound salty.
