    Re: Rent's Expansion Draft Idea

So after we draft players from the expansion team, my proposal for protecting players would be
7 position players, 3 pitchers, all LMs -or- 9 players and all LMs

Edit: all LM players 23 and under, to prevent hoarding. Trades allowed

    Re: Rent's Expansion Draft Idea

Rough estimate off the top of my head.

If we start with the premise that an expansion team is expected to be able to fill out their roster with back end players (4th and 5th slot quality starters, 7th-9th batting order type hitters) we have something to work with.

Now we have to figure out how many useful pitchers, on average, a team uses (I'd estimate about 7-8). Right away, that gives us 5 starters and 2-3 bullpen arms. So if a team is allowed to protect 4 pitchers, that gives us a decent range on our selection.

Same with offense, let a team protect 6 and you get back end quality.

Throw in a flex (a team can protect an extra hitter or pitcher, their choice) and exclude any players 24 or younger with 1 year or less experience (basically, any player that is 23 or younger and a rookie this season). This dilutes the overall talent, but since the expansion team gets 23 picks, and realistically only needs to fill 16ish roster spots with useful players, on average they don't need to find a useful player from every team. So some extra dilution/protection should be ok.

So 4 pitchers, 6 hitters, 1 flex. All players 24 years and younger with 1 or less years experience are exempt. That would be my starting point.

Someone would have to actually test out those numbers with multiple teams to see if it's in the ballpark though.

Why are we even entertaining this. If he releases the guy or under trades him away at a firesale then just kick him and reverse the trade.

Just me personally, but if I was lucky enough to take over SVI I'd prefer to stick with the current roster. Challenging rebuilds are probably my favorite part of CSFBL, I love working the margins of a roster.
