Can I do this with my team? Sheesh, optimize my team from the 11th best player from everyone's else squad? Including low minors?

    Sounds awesome.

Low minors should be excluded. If we are thinking NHL style at least. They also allowed trades, like anaheim sent stoner and theodore to protect manson/vatanen. That worked cuz theodore was ineligible
    Happy, but a little lost

    Re: Rando Season 1

    from an existing owner perspective:

Mexico would protect: James Alexander, Jason Dalton, Gregory Crouch, Chadwick Schmidt, Donald Sizemore, John Harris, Francis Daugherty, John Clark, Thanos Fowler and last but least, Charles Nielsen

leaving older producing players like Adam Robbins, Gregory Whitt, James Baker; aging offensive decent SS Joseph Jones; young elite defenders at low spectrum John Alvarez, Wm Cook, Johnnie McClure (if converted down); young DHs Morgan Landry, Jose Luis Harvey; or weak P prospect John Shaffer

other teams aren't as deep, but there are 10 choices on Mexico that a new owner could want.

only 71% of teams use a SS anyway.

    Re: Rent's Expansion Draft Idea

I believe for Las Vegas there was a requirement to protect a certain amount of players by position and by minors status (like what Ray mentioned above).

I think my ideal outcome would be like: the team could win 80-85 games but be old (basically everyone over 30, few prospects). Or the team could be a lot younger, but not as good right away. So you could compete for a WC basically immediately but have a lot of work to keep it going, or you could have a clearer path to constant contention but it'd take a while. 10 protected players might be too few. 14 maybe? Again, I'd want to look at the actual numbers instead of straight guessing.

Not sure what the implications of getting 23 players would be. That would be a deep team, I don't think any roster has 23 serviceable players. Might be a situation where the protected player list is a little lower than you'd expect (10 vs 14 or whatever) but the expansion only gets to take 15 players or so. To avoid a situation where they have the deepest bullpen and bench in the league but no stars. That may be preferable though since you'd have the ability to make a lot of trades.

it's a fun thought experiment even if we wouldn't actually do it, at least.

You just proved my point... 4/4/2 and the pieces you leave unprotected, considering this same across all the other teams, I could construct a PO bound team in one season, as I would have trade worthy pieces as a bonus

    Re: Rando Season 1

Its a fun idea. Id really love to hammer out the rules. In the NHL, teams protected something like 7 forwards, 3 defense, 1 goalie -or- 8 skaters and 1 goalie. 1st and 2nd year players as well as prospects are protected. Trades allowed.

The thing about expansion teams is they are supposed to suck

Yeesh. I would be leaving some good talent on the table. There would be some hard decisions, and even then, I'd have to cut loose some real talent.
Joke? In't he that dude, disguised as a dude, playin' that other dude, bruh?

"Swerve. That dude is totally turnt."

    "Right?!?! He's crunk, Bruh!
