Agree about Kesler. Maybe they wanted more room to work the FA market this year and then work on getting rid of Getzlaf during the season. Or maybe they count on the CBA being terminated prematurely, which would be after next season.

And cheaper than Perry was. Maybe it would be wise to keep Getzlaf around and try to make the playoffs.

7 years at $7M for Kevin Hayes. Because they like his ability on the penalty kill. Sounds like a poor man's Rick Nash, except with a rich man's price tag. If he turns out to be more of a Patrice Bergeron, they may not regret it as much.

Uneventful draft, but Los Angeles got a couple of steals with D Tobias Björnfot and LW Samuel Fagemo. Strong start to their overdue rebuild.

Im excited for Zegras. Then the next guy sounds like hes a net front winger. I know they wont be getzlaf and perry, but anywhere close would be nice

Zegras sounds very promising. Tracey sounds like a bit of a gamble as they picked him a round or two above his projection. Maybe they scouted him better, or have a vision of how he will fit in. It sounds like he may be a big boy who doesn't play a lot of defense. It's a tougher game for those power forwards these days, but there are coaches who can work around it.

Florida picked a defenseman from Belarus with a -23 rating in a Canadian junior league. The scouts claim that he's a solid player, but who has a -23 rating in juniors? He sounds a lot like Mike Matheson, which doesn't make me very excited.

Look at the Oilers and consider if stockpiling good players makes a team good. Subban was horrible this year, so who knows if he'll bounce back or get even worse. They will have no excuses if they don't get good soon though.
