Re: discusssion on Salary Cap/Created Free Agents

With some new owners joining recently, I figure it is a good time to re-visit this.
We currently have a cap of 60 mil and 10 created FA per season.

About half the teams in the league are over the cap.

Anyone care to discuss any potential changes?

Cap limits and FA's aren't the point. Anybody not at budget on 4/5 should have players removed by commisioner if they haven't done it themselves, and if the commisioner has to do it, they should give up their first round pick for the season. Teams over the budget are stacking the deck. Two things that kill this game are people hiding top players in the minors and allowing owners to field teams over the budget. I recently had to leave two teams because they had live drafts and I was just too busy to keep up, but they were death on teams that were over budget or hid players and it made them great leagues to be part of. Any player that reaches age 24 and makes $1.5 million or more should have to move out of rookie league. Budgets could be managed as I have described.

Wasn't aware of this ever being a hard cap league. Was that established somewhere at some point?

Been in this league since it started and never remember reading that anywhere which is why my team has been over most seasons.

Why is there a salary cap if it's not a hard cap? Why not make the cap $200M? I've never heard of that before. Maybe it's common. Just never heard of it. And why is there a discussion over whether the cap should be $60M or $65M. Seems silly. Like watching porn where the actors are in their 90's. What's the point?

This depends on each individual’s experience on the site but non-hard cap is common for me. I’ve been in eight leagues for many years now and only three are hard cap, one of which was relatively recent in the league’s history.

And should be noted if a league is hard cap, there should be rules laid out in the forum as to what happens when there’s a violation. Don’t think we have that here.

Totally agree. I just didn't realize it when I joined the league. My own bad. I just prefer hard caps. Just look at the runaway leader in this league. 14 game lead over the next best team. I'm not faulting them, they're playing by the rules. And to give them their due, I can see they have done a tremendous job with the draft. But it can make the league boring.

Not a hard cap, we have never had a hard cap in this league. CSFBL's default system is a soft cap. Everyone has the same rules at hand though. If you can build yourself a dominant team, yes you will have more success for awhile, but your salary will also grow and you wont be able to spend as much money in scouting, development, drills, etc...and your players will decline quicker. You will also not be able to sign any free agents if you are over the cap.
