Just wanted to let everyone know that ComputerSims is now the proud owner of three new assets:
- We own a license for vBulletin, one of the most powerful and established forums products in the world. vBulletin will replace CommunityServer as soon as we can work out the kinks and establish a solid migration path. (We plan on migrating everything.)
- We own the rights to a managed server provided by SoftLayer. It has two quad-core processors, 4GB of RAM, and four 250GB drives in a RAID10 configuration -- in other words, orders of magnitude beyond what we have today. It's also hosted in a top data center with 99.9% uptime guarantees. Migrating from our current server to this new one will take plenty of time and testing.
- We just came to agreement with a developer to work with us as a full time contractor. His main role will be to work on business-related projects that we have (that is, the things I do to pay my mortgage and keep my wife and daughter from leaving me), but he will also be utilized wherever I can use him.
There's a lot of work ahead of us as we ramp up towards these changes, but the tentative goal is to have the new server and forums in production by June 1, 2008. Additional changes are planned between June 1 through July 15; more on that later.
Dates are subject to change, of course. I'll keep you posted as things develop.
