There seems to be multiple problems...
- The server's 250GB or so of disk space can no longer hold the databases and one week's worth of backups. Not a good thing.
- Something is up with the router that connects us to the internet;
it seems to be giving intermittent issues, possibly only with wired
(non-wireless) connections, which of course is the server. Not sure why
or whether I can convince Verizon to replace it (I'm sure they will not
want to).
- Server running out of disk space is creating latency issues in the database due to excessive fragmentation.
- The new Logitech keyboard I just got has a space bar that
doesn't always activate when pressed on the right side (which is the
side I press). Will have to send it back.
What does this mean?
- Expect CSFBL to be down over the weekend while we do server maintenance.
- Keep your fingers crossed that I can get somewhere in my discussions with Verizon as I try to get a new router from them.
Bigger picture -- CSFBL has clearly outgrown any kind of hosting I can do from my house. Unfortunately an upgrade will be very expensive (hundreds of dollars per month for a dedicated managed server), but it is going to be necessary for the future stability and growth of the game.
